Portuguese Pot Sangria
Elise and I created — and perfected — this dreamy rosé sangria in 2019 during our month long trip in Portugal. We were staying in an airbnb without proper glassware, so we made this sangria base every morning in, you guessed it, a big pot. Hence, pot sangria. Whether you make it in a pot or a pitcher, it truly is the perfect patio drink.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Mateus Rosé (or another off-dry rosé)
- 1 large orange
- 1 large lemon
- 2–3 strawberries
- ~⅓ cup triple sec
- ½ cup peach juice (or other tropical/citrusy juice)
- 1 bottle vinho verde
Method
- 1
Slice the orange and lemon into rounds and half. I like to pull out the seeds and excess white webbing so it doesn't drift out into the sangria. Slice the strawberries. Drop all the fruit in your receptacle.
- 2
Pour the bottle of rosé, the triple sec, and juice into the receptacle. Mix. Chill overnight or for at least 8 hours.
- 3
To serve, pour the base sangria into a glass and top with an inch or so of vinho verde. Add more vinho verde if you'd like a less intense liquor/fruit taste.
A note from Jocelyn
Interesting note: Both the Mateus and the vinho verde are Portuguese wines from the Minho region north of Porto.
